First Video:
Books mentioned in the video above:
Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy by David D. Burns (published in 1980) (also available as an audio book).
Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain Paperback by John J. Ratey MD (also available as an audio book)
Book similar to Feeling Good:
Feeling Great by Dr. David Burns (published in 2020) (also available as an audio book)
Dr. Tavares has found Feeling Great to be really great! It is easier to read than Feeling Good. We do not have yet scientific studies about the effects of reading Feeling Great, but it is likely to have similar or higher positive effects than reading Feeling Good, as Feeling Great presents basically the same information as Feeling Good, just more effectively. Dr. Tavares does not recommend to his patients to read the chapter 31 of Feeling Great (chapter: what causes depression and anxiety?), as it presents one incorrect fact about the use of antidepressants in children and teenagers. This is otherwise an amazing book.

Third Video:
The amazing book mentioned in this video:
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Dr. Tavares took the Dale Carnegie course in 2013 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada and has read How to Win Friend and Influence People close to 20 times so far. Dr. Tavares does NOT have any financial affiliation with the Dale Carnegie Courses. Dr. Tavares is a truly believer in the teachings of Dale Carnegie. One observation from Dr. Tavares: the skills Dale Carnegie teaches are very similar to the skills Dr. Alan Kazdin teaches in his book: The Kazdin Method for Parenting the Defiant Child: With No Pills, No Therapy, No Contest of Wills. Dr. Tavares talks about The Kazdin Method in:

The situation of children and teenagers not having quick access to counseling / psychotherapy sessions is very common in Canada and in the USA. Most times, the self help book are not a replacement for the counseling / psychotherapy sessions, but the book frequently help, specially while the child could not yet start attending the counseling sessions. Ask your family doctor if you should or not start reading any of the books mentioned in this website. Never change your treatment without the advice of your doctor.
